Biologique: The Backstory
In a small village in France, the mayor and city council created a mandate to improve the health of the village and the future of their children. It addressed one very important contributor to environmental pollutants: synthetic chemicals used in agriculture. This mandate became an inspiration to the entire community.
Like the mayor of Barjac, the mayor of your farming community has created a similar policy. All school lunches that are funded by the county shall serve only locally sourced, organically grown food.
The region is lacking in certain organic produce. The county is offering contracts to local farmers who will convert to organic methods and provide this missing produce to the schools. Local shops and community members are looking to buy more organic produce as well, and are willing to pay a premium price for the healthiest food.
Players are farmers in this region who had been using intensive chemical farming practices. Your soil is dead and salty from the use of synthetic fertilizers. And some plots are poisoned with persistent pesticides and herbicides.
You have your work cut out for you to make your land healthy, and compete to grow clean food for your community and the county schools.
Overview: Biologique is a competitive, resource management game. Players acquire soil, organic seeds, seedlings and mulch in the form of tokens and tiles. They use a special tile to decompose the persistent toxic chemicals in the soil. Players then build the soil and plant organic crops using the appropriate tokens and tiles. Cover crops, farmscaping techniques, biodiversity and mulch are used in improving the quality of produce, thus bringing better yield and more money at the time of selling.
Players sell organically grown crops to the local community in the market. And if they complete the correct number of organic method cards, they can also receive a contract with the county, bringing in more income and bonuses.
